The Lean-2’s straight-forward design capitalizes on a single concept: material availability. Leveraging off-the-shelf construction materials and accessible additive manufacturing technologies, the Lean-2 provides a basic kit-of-parts for simple, yet endlessly flexible shelters.
Metal conduit, shading fabric, blocking, and basic fasteners are readily available in large quantities at your local hardware store. With the relative affordability and portability of modern 3d-printers, more and more schools, libraries, and individual users have access to unprecedented systems of prototyping and production. Using common materials and 3d-printed connections, the Lean-2 combines material simplicities and plug-and-play mindsets into a bundle of possibilities: bus stops, park benches, even temporary shelters are viable.
